President Dr Mohamed Waheed yesterday signed the Book of Condolence of Late Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla.

In his message, President Waheed expressed that the passing away of Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla marked an episode of national grief for the Maldives. He stated that during the time when Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla assumed office as the Foreign Minister, the Maldives was in great domestic turmoil and faced many outside challenges. However, the President stated, through diligent efforts of the Foreign Minister, the Maldives was able to overcome all those challenges.

After signing the Book of Condolences, President Waheed spoke with the staff of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his remarks, President Waheed paid tribute to the services of Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla and especially noted the pivotal role he played during Maldives’ inclusion in the CMAG agenda and the GMR issue.

The President concluded his remarks by praying Almighty Allah to grant Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla’s soul the eternal blessings.
